B.O.K. Ranch Equestrian Scholarship Fund

B.O.K. Ranch, located at the Woodside Horse Park, is raising funds to cover the cost of providing full inclusion riding lessons to aspiring equestrians referred by the San Mateo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to advocate on behalf of children in the Foster Care system.

Be kind. Be brave. Be okay.

For years, B.O.K. Ranch, located at the Woodside Horse Park, has focused on full inclusion riding programs which blend children with and without physical disabilities. When the COVID pandemic hit, everything changed. Continuing to serve children with physical disabilities and adhere to social distancing guidelines was not possible. B.O.K. is pivoting to a program serving children in the San Mateo County Foster Care system with social/emotional needs. And now they need your help!

The Woodside Community Foundation is providing a matching grant of $2,000 toward B.O.K.’s goal of $6,400. The goal is to raise scholarship funds to allow a total of eight children with social/emotional needs to participate in the program. It costs about $800 per child to provide a lesson per month for a year with B.O.K.’s top-notch instructors. Through other community donations, each child awarded a scholarship will also be provided with all the necessary gear (boots, breeches, gloves and helmets). Transportation to and from lessons will be provided by CASA volunteers.

Building a new kind of inclusiveness.

With the ongoing need for social distancing, B.O.K. Ranch is pleased to have forged a new partnership with the CASA program. This alliance will permit B.O.K. to continue to offer their unique riding program in a way that’s especially important during this COVID crisis. Parents who signed up to care for foster children prior to the time of COVID are challenged now to find safe, outdoor, and socially distanced 'after school' activities for their foster children to take part in. The B.O.K. Ranch is really looking forward to offering the wonderful world of horses to these families in a way that recognizes we can all learn something from one another and we build community together.
